Chandigarh, Sept.15.The Punjab and Haryana high court decision to grant permission to the Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) to hold its “POL Khol”rally at Faridkot this Sunday has completely exposed that the rally was banned on purely political consideration by the ruling party and not out of any apprehensions of law and order.
In a statement issued here today, party’s senior vice president and spokesman Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema said the Congress was progressively losing its ground in Punjab for its gross failure on all fronts in honouring its own poll commitments and was keen to control political activities at any cost.
To accomplish its objective of silencing its political activists, Dr. Cheema said the Congress is aggressively colluding with hardliners to whip up communal passions and simultaneously abusing the political power and administrative machinery of the state to browbeat its opponents – be it by appointing pliable commissions’ heads like Justice Ranjit Singh ore appointing SITs to seek tailor –made reports to belittle the Akalis who are out to challenge the authoritarian, irresponsible and inefficient functioning of the government.
The banning of the Faridkot rally was a step in this direction but it has boomeranged and hit the Congress leaders especially its state president Sunil Jakhar who has, of late, emerged most vociferous protagonist of fundamentalists. With the decision and direction of the High Court, the Congress leaders are looking for space to hide as the alibi of apprehension has been completely rejected.
In a combating mood, Dr.Cheema d if the Congress government can’t ensure a peaceful gathering in a district with all its might, then it indirectly concedes failure of law and order and hence should quit. Holding rallies is a part of the fundamental right of the people and it’s the duty of the state to provide security to the peaceful gathering and take appropriate actions against trouble makers be Congressmen or the hardliners.
